Does Cardio Burn Muscle Mass Or Fat? Don’t Be Scared Of Doing Cardio!
I’ve been asked a few times now if I’m worried about losing muscle from doing cardio. To be honest, I’m really not. Yes, you can burn muscle from doing too much cardio, but you can also not burn muscle. It really just depends on how much you do and how you do it. So in reality, the answer is no, cardio does not burn muscle; training in an incorrect way is what burns muscle.
After documenting my results of doing eight straight weeks of consistent cardio training on http:visualimpactcardioreview.net, I’ve been asked many different questions regarding muscle loss vs. fat loss. My overall reply is that I’m usually not too concerned because I don’t over-train or under-eat. In this article, I want to go into a little more detail.
Since this post isn’t about the benefits of cardio I won’t go into detail on that, but I am a fan of cardio. I feel that it is a good way for those of us who have desk jobs or are stationary for the majority of the day to get in some quality exercise. Lifting weights is good, don’t get me wrong, but getting your heart rate up, sweating a bit and doing some good ole’ cardio is good too. I personally don’t fall into the crowd who thinks cardio is dead. It may not be necessary to get in shape, but it certainly isn’t ineffective either.
What Is The Best Cardio To Lose Weight And … What Is Not?
Losing weight can be a tricky subject. For some, it comes easy. For others, it can seem nearly impossible. But really, losing weight comes down to only a few things. Your diet, which I’ve talked quite a bit about recently, and your exercise. When it comes to burning calories while you’re exercising, cardio should not be overlooked. But what is the best cardio to lose weight?
Unfortunately there is not ONE type of cardio that is the “best.” Instead, you need to understand what the different types of cardio are and how they can be used to create maximum weight loss.
What leaves me scratching my head is when I see people at the gym pedaling their bikes in a half sleep while reading a novel …
that is NOT the best cardio to lose weight.
Instead of going to the gym (or even outside) with the thought of just “winging” it, you will see MUCH better results if you have a plan of attack ahead of time. Knowing exactly what you are going to do for each workout before you do it is crucial. And yes, this even applies to cardio.
Question & Answer: Is Cardio Good For Weight Loss?
I’ve heard a lot of different theories as to whether or not cardio is good for weight loss … probably you have too. So, is cardio good for weight loss?
Cardio has gotten a bad wrap over the last few years. Some say that it is inefficient for fat loss while others say it actually makes you soft and flabby around the midsection. What I’ve found is that it is not cardio’s fault. The REAL problem is that not everyone knows how to implement it properly into their routine.
I wish my gym had a view like this … it would be much easier to do cardio with this view!
Over the last two weeks I’ve been following a new cardio program that is coming out in a month or two … or three. I’ll talk more about that later.
What I have found first hand is that YES, cardio is good for weight loss … as long as you know what to do and when to do it.
I have been talking about the benefits of combining HIIT with steady state cardio ever since I started my blog. That method does still apply, but I have found that good old fashioned steady state cardio does have it’s place as well
Are The Amount Of Calories Burned Walking Really Worth The Time And Effort?
To some, hearing the answer to how many calories you burn walking is an immediate turn off. Although the typical amount of calories burned walking is about 340 calories for a one hour stroll, there are other benefits to walking. There are also different aspects to “a walk” that will make them more beneficial. So, is it worth the time and effort to go for walks even though you don’t burn a whole lot of calories? Yes!
If you want to burn more calories from walking, and have an awesome view while doing it … ditch the shoes and head to the (warm) beach.
Is walking the go-to exercise for weight loss? Of course not. Walking to lose weight is insufficient and will take a long time to see any real results. Is walking a good compliment to your cardio and weight lifting efforts for losing weight and living a healthy life? Absolutely.
In this article I’d like to briefly touch upon a few of the benefits of walking and why you should be getting off your butt and getting some fresh air. Also, I’ll show you what the average person will burn by walking for 30 minutes and by 60 minutes.

How Much Cardio To Lose Weight? Get Better Results In Less Time With This Combo
When it comes to losing weight there are many determining factors that come into play. Since it’s most important to lose “fat weight” over other types of weight, that’s what we’ll go into here. The most effective type of exercise to lose weight has got to be cardio. But, how much cardio to lose weight? That depends. The truth is, you can cut your cardio time in about half and get better weight loss results without even touching your diet. Once you fine tune your diet — the amount of cardio it takes to lose weight reduces even more.
It seems that the view the fitness industry has towards cardio changes from time to time, but the truth is — cardio is great for losing weight. The type of cardio does play a role in just how much it’s going to take though.
Before we begin to touch on the amount of cardio to lose weight, you have to realize that this is all based off of how many calories you are taking in. In order to lose weight, you have to spend more calories than you consume.
Try This Interval Training On Treadmill Workout To Lose Weight Faster Than Traditional Treadmill Workouts
Working out on a treadmill can be a horrible way to lose fat fast. Working out on a treadmill can be an excellent way to lose fat fast. Which one is it? Both! If you approach your treadmill workout with the mindset that you’re going to spend an hour walking at a medium pace while maybe reading a book or the latest issue of Men’s or Women’s Health then that’s not the best way to lose fat fast. But, if you do an interval training on treadmill workout then you are going to get great results and lose weight much quicker!
Next time you go to the gym, take a look around at those on the treadmills, elliptical machines and bikes. Chances are you will see maybe a few actually “working out” while you will also see a handful simply going through the motions. Sure, there are definitely health benefits to strolling along as many do, but those just putting in the time are going to need to put in a lot more time than those who go to the gym with a plan to work.
Bottom line, you can get much greater benefits by doing an interval training on treadmill workout than you can by doing a steady state cardio training on treadmill workout.

Fartlek Training: An Interval Style Workout Training Session For Athletes To Gain Speed & Really “Let ‘er Rip”
So of course, I went back and forth on the title of this post, but with a name like Fartlek Training, it’s awfully hard to resist! All jokes aside though, a fartlek workout is actually quite a fun and effective way to get in great shape.
Although originally designed for runners, fartlek training sessions can be incorporated into almost any athlete’s workout. Overall, these programs are designed to improve speed and endurance while running, but you’ll see that they can help you in many sports.

“A training technique, used especially among runners, consisting of bursts of intense effort loosely alternating with less strenuous activity.”
Aerobic vs Anaerobic Exercise – What’s The Difference & Is One Better Than The Other?
There seems to be a debate on whether aerobic exercise or anaerobic exercise is better. Truth is – it just depends on you, your goals and your fitness level. Chances are some will swear by one type of exercise while someone else will swear by another. My take on aerobic vs anaerobic – why not both.
Wouldn’t this be a great gym to workout in. Apparently the price for a membership isn’t too cheap, note the empty room.
To better understand the benefits that both aerobic and anaerobic exercises offer, we need to actually know what the terms mean and how they apply to exercising.
High Intensity Interval Training Workouts (HIIT) – Nothing Melts Fat Off Like These Workouts
The most efficient way to burn fat for men and women is by doing high intensity interval training workouts (HIIT). The days of long, boring and infective cardio workouts are over, or at least significantly reduced in number. Once you add these into your workout routine you will begin seeing results immediately.
When it comes to “high intensity interval training workouts,” no animal comes to mind quite like the Cheetah. Cheetahs can run a consistent speed for a short period of time up to 65mph and some claim they can reach speeds of 75mph – a prime example of high intensity intervals!
